a leathern bag or knapsack; a Gallic word; cf. OIr. bolc,

A kind of fur prepared from lambskin dressed with the wool
on; -- used formerly as an edging and ornament, esp. of
scholastic habits.

purse. It is used for carrying powder from the magazine to
the battery, in siege or seacoast service.
