Producing contraction; stopping bleeding; having the quality
of restraining hemorrhage when applied to the bleeding part;
astringent. [Written also {stiptic}.]
{Styptic weed} (Bot.), an American leguminous herb ({Cassia
occidentalis}) closely related to the wild senna.
