dishearthen; dispirit; discourage; deject; depress. --
To {Dismay}, {Daunt}, {Appall}. Dismay denotes a state
of deep and gloomy apprehension. To daunt supposes
something more sudden and startling. To appall is the
strongest term, implying a sense of terror which
overwhelms the faculties.
