(a) (Alg.) A quantic of the second degree. See {Quantic}.
(b) (Geom.) A surface whose equation in three variables is of
the second degree. Spheres, spheroids, ellipsoids,
paraboloids, hyperboloids, also cones and cylinders with
circular bases, are quadrics.
