1. To make less severe, intense, harsh, rigorous, painful,
etc.; to soften; to meliorate; to alleviate; to diminish;
to lessen; as, to mitigate heat or cold; to mitigate
grief.
2. To make mild and accessible; to mollify; -- applied to
